The aim of the dissertation is to present the relevancy of ionizing raditation, as well as to clearly show its role in life, with its positive and negative factors. The paper provides a general overview of the Earth's natural radioactive background, radioactive radiation and its types. The use of ionizing radiation in medicine is also discussed and the effects of radiation on living organisms are described.
