Monitoring Detoxification of trinitrotoluene by bacteria using Physical methods

The goal of our work is to grow bacterial cultures, which can use TNT as energy source. Bacteria must be able to use 2,4,6-Trinitrotoluine as only source of carbon and nitrogen. We use twi kinds of bacteria -Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E.coli. We gradually added and raised concentration of TNT into theit nutrient broth to get bacteria that can decompose (detoxicate) TNT. We monitored the growth of bacteria in the broth by the turbudimetric metod. To double-check the results, we use the spectrophotometric method. Even not in wartime, weapons are checked due to which the environment is polluted by various chemicals, including TNT. All the more TNT is one of the most used explosives and it is also used in mine explosions, bridges, buildings and so on. TNT is by far one of the largest pollutants in our environment. So the development of a method dor detoxyfycating is really an important task. In the end result of our experiment, we can get microorganisms that can decompose TNT and in the future can be used in the purification of soil, water and atmosphere.
