Author: nana dzadzamia
Keywords: methylene blue, drug release, diffusion exponent, surfactant
Annotation:

The release profile of drug with wide spectrum of pharmacological action [7- (dimethylamino) phenothiazin-3-ylidene] - dimethylazanium chloride from microemulsion systems was studied in the present work. Microemulsions were prepared on the basis of nonionic surfactants: polyoxyethylene (20) cetyl ether, polyoxyethylene (4) lauryl ether, polyoxyethylene (23) lauryl ether, polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monooleate, pluronic 31R1 and sodium cholate. A phosphate buffer (pH = 7.4) was used as a receptor solution, and the donor phase was methylene blue dissolved in a microemulsion. Experiments were carried out by dialysis using cellulose membranes. Results are treated with Kosmayer-Peppas model. Diffusion exponent and kinetic constant for each microemulsion system were calculated.
